i think he reffers to people making "mods" like the many mods for half life or neverwinter nights.
you know, like some group of people make a mod "the charr invasion" where you can either be charr or fight against them and discover what happened with them...
then again, im tired and i wanna go to bed.

What good is it if it can't interact with real GW? Then it's just a spoof/different game based on the GW engine. If it can interact with GW, you can mod in limitless amounts of gold and rare weapons/armor/characters.
There is already a "mod" if you will a lot of PvP'ers use G-Stats.

3rd party programs are illegal, and why would I want them anyway? it'll mess up the community someday. And, I would never use g-stats cause it records all your information, and it would be easy as pie for a-net to ban all those that use it. *wonders why they havn't yet*

If you are refering to the Bot programs, they are running outside of the GW program.

im not sure how far beyond custom maps/monsters/loot this could go.
Counter Strike is the ultimate online FPS ever IMO, and was originally a Third Party Dev, so they can ace it, I mean Valve baught the rights to CS its that good.
Now I cant think of anything a third party developer may wish to come up with.
To set the record straight hes go look up Half Life and Unreal Tournament, now go find Counter Strike / Rag Doll KungFu, UT-Matrix Moves etc.
These are all codes which have been wrote by Third Party Developers i.e. not the original game Devs which can be used in the game, apart from the original game content, to offer a different play experiance. Basically 3rd Party Developments utilise the game's code engine to proivde a diferent game, its not about creating all your own code.
Imagine with consoles when they release Dev Packages for people to make games for them, instead NCsoft could sell Dev Packages for the GW enginge.
Hes not talking about Third Party Programs to hack the game or anything.
Hell if Anet/NCsoft wanted, they could offer these 3rdPartyDevelopments in the shop (for free, or charged depending on how good they are) and access them while loged into GW, so they wou;dnt have to worry about KeyLoggers and stuff.
So for isntance someone could write an actual dodgeball minigame, so you dont have to be an Ele with xHP casting such and such a spell, but could be any class, etc.

and not to flame, but alot of you seem to have jumped to conclusions on this and drawn the wrong card.

Well, Third Party as you know is a party that isn't under control of anybody wo0o00o0o00o0o00o0o0o...
Surely they'll have to get the agreement with them and Anet and whatever. BUT THE GME IS THEIR PROBLEM!!!!!
And you do know that there are great programmers out there...
Also it wouldn't make GW laggy because it'll be it's ow game running on the GW engine and stuff.....
Do you see Hostile Intent crapping Half-Life?
Or CS crapping HF? NO!!!!!

if you like those options on the other games so much, by all means go play them and leave GW alone
i have never understood wanting "cheat mode"in ANY game, whats the point, if your to lazy to play the way it was intended why waste money on "it"

Yes, you can share those damn things with your account (sarcastic)
But just to let you guys know that cheating isn't exactly fun.
It's only fun when you beat people at PvP with it, but that drives people away from your mod so yeah.......
Also to let you guys know that IT DOESN'T HAVE TO BE THE ORIGINAL GAME!!!
It's a mod!!! It can be it's OWN FREAKIN MAP!!!! OWN SETTINGS!! OWN WEAPONS!!!!!
God I feel that people can't read here.

we can read you just dont seem to get the idea that this game is all server side to prevent any hacking/modding or game changes Anet doesnt make.
since this idea will never happen somebody close this and let something reasonable take its place

Gameshoes, you'll have to forgive many of the people here. They're morons.
Your idea is a good one, but very unlikely to happen. Unlike Neverwinter Nights and Half-Life, which rely on the use of their engines to drive sales, Guild Wars depends on content purchases. That is, they're trying to give you an experience you don't need mods for, and spare themselves the headache of making their engine portable for your average schmoe to code his own mod. Valve and Bioware, on the other hand, make very nice and easy to use engines and put out crap games. Can anyone really argue that HL2 was anything more than an ten-hour physics and AI demo? Or that Neverwinter Night's default campaign didn't suck monkey ass?
Anyway. You're asking for one side of the spectrum, GW is on the other. NWN is the undisputed king of RPG modding; pretty much anything you'd want to see in a mod can be found using it. Anything that can't is almost definitely already modded into Morrowind or Oblivion. I've done some myself. ANet has no reason to try to be something they're not and every reason to be the best at what they already do.

Well.. yes and no.
Depend on if you mean the moding is private or dev-control. Since GW need to run on a central server to protect against abuse and hack and other nasty things, would have very small chance in seeing GW coming out with Private Modding capablity.
But I see posiblity where A.net licent the modding power to a 3-rd party company, for them to develop new maps and new expansions and such for purchase... with the approval and testing of A.net of course.
-----------------------------------------------------------
And I get what you are saying, gameshoes3003. Make people able to play the moded game, but have it not be on the same "world" as rest of the game. Its possible, but I think it is also lots trouble. GW is not sell as a "platform" game or as a gaming engin, like in HL and Diablo. It is asking Dev to coming up with the modding tools, and a single player version that allow private IP/Lan connection between players comp. Sound very troublesome.

At first I thought it was great that UT released their code to the public so the public could make mods, mutators, maps, gametypes etc. After dealing with lamers for the last 4 years that use the code for reasons like aimbots, trigger bots, radars, wall hacks, speed hacks, server crashes, guid harvesting, invisi hack, dodge hack......the list is virtually endless, I now think this is a VERY bad idea for companies to release their code. Once that code is released all the lamers will jump all over it & you would see sooo many cheats for GW it would be ridiculous.
Bad Idea....sorry.
